Winfield bought 160 acres of land at Pine City, Washington, from his father Jacob, about 1904 for $800. He lived there until 1918. He then moved to Sawtell, California, until 1921 when he returned to his farm. He lived in Cheney, Washington, from 1928-1930. In 1930 he moved to Rosalia, Washington, and worked for his brother, Leonard, in the nursery. In 1932 he returned to the Pine City farm and remained there until ill health forced him to retire in 1964 to Oaksdale, Washington.
