Irma writes about her father as follows:
"My dad, Henry Gus Kimm, was a gentle man of quality - something rare
these days. His pride in his work and his joy in providing service for others
was for him as natural as breathing. He enjoyed doing things for the
neighborhood children, repairing the repairing their toys -and yes, sometimes
their shoes - all for free.
He was fond of baseball and in late years he and Mother often sat and watched the children's games taking place on the lot between our house and our neighbor's. Once in a while a baseball would go through the kitchen window. Dad would just put in a new one - no charge.
He farmed from 1896 to 1920, when he moved to Blairstown and purchased and operated a blacksmith shop for several years. At that time (1911) he made the tools for the iron bridge built by Mr. Rife, Shellsburg. Parts for the bridge were purchased from Clinton Bridge Co. Henry made the punches and chisels which were used to put the bridge together. The bridge was 100 feet over Prairie Creek with 80 feet extra length at the north end. The bridge was removed and replaced in 1960.
After selling the blacksmith shop, Henry helped his brother Bert Kimm in his
meat market at Blairstown until Bert's death in 1918. Henry repaired and
sharpened lawn mowers in a small shop at his home (after retiring) for many
years."

Porter served in the United States Amy from 5 Sept 1918 to 3 July 1919. He was part owner of Kimm & Sons Ready-Mix Plant at Blairstown. His hobby was raising zebra burros and training them for covered wagon hitch. He entered many parades with his burros and was a regular winner. He played baseball from teenage to age 55 with Watkins and Blairstown teams and old timers.

Kenneth operated trucks from 1928-1972 when he retired. From 1935-1942, he trucked refrigerated loads from Omaha, Nebraska to New York and all points east. He played baseball for many years with Watkins and Blairstown teams. He was a volunteer fireman for many years.

Pat attended C.E. School of Commerce in Omaha, Nebraska, and was employed by AYOC Finance Co. in Omaha until 1968. Norm graduated from the University of Omaha and received his master's degree from the University of Iowa. Norm is upper elementary principal at the School for the Deaf, Council Bluffs, Iowa. Pat is the author of the Kimm history published in the Blairstown Press 8 Mar 1962 and reprinted on page 101 of this book.
