After graduation from the Blairstown High School, Martin farmed with his father in rural Blairstown until 1910 when with his parents he moved to rural Huron, South Dakota, where he continued to farm.
Martin served two years in the South Dakota House of Representatives - 1928-1929.
About 1930, Martin and Gay and their children returned to Blairstown. They
then moved to Vinton, Iowa, and then to Iowa City, Iowa. Martin did private
nursing at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City for several years.
